We Come In Peace

It was amazing to see this work in person at the Gallery of South Australia showing a collection of beautifully constructed playing card towers incorporated with text that was both witty and powerful. I had never seen an exhibition such as this one use so much found elements collected and then recreated as a series. The use of pop culture references and outrage toward merchandising was an obvious one but in this instantaneous and somewhat prosumsious idea I had toward this exhibition it wasn’t until I research it further now I understand its true meaning. Albert wanted to create a series that reflected the theoretical and the literal with a tower of cards being the symbol of a fragile construction cultural hierachy in today’s world and that cultural identity is a guessing game that is based on chance. How wrong was I? I like this concept much more as it convinced me higher of just how original this series is not just for Aboriginal art but Australian contemporary art.
